1. The writing on this site

Every chapter, cover and illustration on ShardReader is the original work of IggyTag and is protected by copyright in the country it was written in and, through the Berne Convention, in almost every other. Publishing it here places none of it in the public domain.

A full list of what readers may and may not do is in section 5 of the Terms of Service. The short version: read it, link to it, quote a few sentences with credit, make free fan work. Do not repost it, translate it, sell it, narrate it publicly, scrape it, or use it to train a machine learning model.

2. If your work has been posted here

Almost everything here is written by the author, but readers can post messages and suggestions, and a reader might post something that is not theirs. If you own a work that appears on this site without permission, write to us and we will act quickly.

Where to send a notice

The operator's full legal name, country and postal address are not published here. They are held by our domain registrar and by Stripe, and will be provided to a court, or to a party with a genuine legal need, on request to that address.

What a notice must contain

To be effective under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. §512(c)(3)), and to let us act on it at all, your notice must include all of the following:

1. A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner, or a person authorised to act for them.
2. Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed, or a representative list if there are several.
3. Identification of the material claimed to be infringing, with enough detail for us to find it: the page address, the chapter, the room, or the message.
4. Your address, telephone number and email address.
5. A statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
6. A statement that the information in the notice is accurate, and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or authorised to act for the owner.

A notice missing these parts may not be actionable. Please send it in text, not as an image, so it can be read and answered.

What happens next

• We aim to acknowledge every notice within 3 working days, and to act on a complete one promptly.
• Material that appears to infringe is removed or hidden while the matter is looked at.
• The reader who posted it is told, and given a copy of the notice.
• Notices, and the action taken, are kept on file.

Knowingly making a false claim of infringement carries liability for damages, including costs and legal fees, under §512(f). Please do not use this process for something that is not a copyright question: the Terms of Service cover harassment, privacy and the rest, and contact@shardreader.com reaches a person either way.

3. Counter-notice

If your material was removed and you believe that was a mistake or a misidentification, you may send a counter-notice to copyright@shardreader.com, containing:

1. Your signature, physical or electronic.
2. Identification of the material removed and where it appeared before removal.
3. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith it was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification.
4. Your name, address and telephone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the Federal District Court for the district of your address (or, if outside the United States, of any district where we may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who gave the original notice.

We will forward a valid counter-notice to the original complainant. If they do not tell us within 10 to 14 working days that they have filed a court action, the material may be restored.

4. Repeat infringers

Accounts that repeatedly post infringing material are closed. Since accounts here are free, this is applied with judgement rather than as a strict count, but two clear strikes against the same account will normally end it.

5. If you find our chapters somewhere else

Copies of the Gesbiek novels on other sites are not authorised, however they are labelled. If you come across one, tell us with a link. You do not need to do anything else, and you are not in trouble for having found it. Reporting a copy genuinely helps.

6. Fan work

Fan art, fan fiction, reviews, reaction videos and discussion threads are welcome, as long as they are free to see, clearly marked as fan work, and do not reproduce whole chapters. That permission is personal to you, can be withdrawn, and does not transfer the rights in the characters or the world.

7. Trade marks

"ShardReader", "Gesbiek", and the marks and logos on this site belong to IggyTag. Use them to refer to the site and the books, not in a way that suggests we made or endorsed something we did not.
